The clock spring is used in the electric rotary connector compartment of the airbag safety system, beneath the steering wheel. It serves as a highly reliable electric current conveyor between two opposite rotating parts. It is mainly composed of soft oval shaped wires, rotation friendly shell, wires (conductive) and receivers etc., to provide electric current to the airbag, horn and other parts while the steering wheel is in a rotated position. The clock spring mechanism also transports electric frequencies and finishing the circuit between frequencies and other important duties of the airbag safety system, to guarantee after a collision occurs, the airbags ECU can reliably, precisely and accurately transport the frequency to the inflator so that the airbag will deploy, to protect the driver and the passengers. If the clock spring mechanism cannot correctly connect between any of the other systems upon collision the airbag will not deploy normally, causing risk to the lives of the passengers. In summary the clock spring mechanism is critical in the safety system.
